Peace always,

By: Ruchama Thu, 15 Apr 2010 22:06:39 +0000 Thank you so much for the precious insights that this website is providing me with. I used to say laughingly ‘that it is God whispering in my ears to be present’. By now it sounds more like a loud calling, not exactly a scream, but for a little while I was angry and thought, if it is really God than why can’t it speak in ways that I can understand…
Now that I have come across your website and all your contributions, I am feeling connected and reassured to be with this sound of silence as a companion not as a threatening force that will overtake me… Thank you very much for this! I will be listening with more attention, curiosity and joy…

By: vector8 Mon, 18 Jan 2010 14:59:06 +0000 Thank you so much, David, for your comment. I’m really glad you found this piece helpful. The Blavatsky book did give me an insight into the sound; I didn’t read all of it though just the part of it that was relevant.

Over the years the Sound has taught me a lot about it. It’s like exploring another facet of myself.

So enjoy playing with and being the Sound, David.

Love and blessings to you,
Enocia :)

By: david Wed, 13 Jan 2010 03:59:30 +0000 Hello, and thank you for making this site happen. I have been looking for some place to find out if I was the only one hearing this ‘sound’, but until I happened upon the term ‘inner silence’ in Castaneda’s book Magical Passes did I have the key I needed to unlock the door.

Funnily enough, I had ordered Blavatsky’s book ‘the voice of silence’ in an effort to find out more, it arrived today! But it seems too obscure for me, and your site is immeasurably more informative!

I have noticed that the sound is unlike any other ‘heard’ sound, it comes from a different place. I can work thru’ the sounds I hear, from traffic down to the pulsing of blood in my ears, and they are all ‘heard’……….you keep going below every sound you hear, and you get to down this…it’s like a sound coming out of the ear, rather than one going into the ear……. I also note that I cannot have conceptual thoughts while listening to it, and even the act of listening FOR it is a barrier to hearing it! It is like the ‘self-remembering’ of Gurjeiff??

Well, thanks for being there, and for lsitening! I feel that there is (or should be?)something more to be discovered or some way to use this in the path of Service, maybe the healing effect mentioned by your previous commentators? Hopefully, it will show me!!

Thanks again, from my heart.

By: vector8 Fri, 21 Aug 2009 10:52:03 +0000 Thank you hedgwitch for your comment. I’m so glad you found the piece helpful. The sound can be experienced in various ways and it’s easy to just dismiss it as tinnitus.

I used to see tiny dots of light when I closed my eyes like they were tiny stars in the distance. In time they came closer and closer and one day I found myself merging and becoming the stars and saw everything as golden light. We are all parf of that light.

Thanks again.

With love,

By: hedgewitch Thu, 20 Aug 2009 14:14:05 +0000 extremely interesting! i have been hearing the ‘universal silence’ as i have always called it since i was 11. it coincided with my seeing miniscule dots in everything as if i was seeing the very atoms that the cosmos is made up of. the dots are golden and ‘vibrate’ and race around each other constantly i was worried about these happenings at the time but now they are part of me and my life. was told i suffered from tinnitus when i first mentioned it in my twenties but i always knew it wasn’t!!!!

By: Pat Sat, 25 Oct 2008 23:08:04 +0000 I have words rhyming three orfour words making a statement in a rap or sing songey way like echo valley and up good down bad and many others they keep changing often and never stop except for very short times. canyou explain and is there any way to stop it and could it be from medication?

By: vector8 Mon, 03 Dec 2007 15:33:38 +0000 Hi John,

Speaking of which, yesterday I watched an old episode of StarTrek, the original series called Wink of an Eye. The ship is taken over by some aliens, as they do. Actually these aliens are evolved humans. Their aim is to accelerate the captain and selected members of his crew so they too would be evolved beings and join their race. Of course Captain Kirk wasn’t going to have any of that and fought to the bitter end. :-)

Spock discovered that when they speeded things up, they could hear it like a sound, which sounded very much like the “ringing” I hear in my head. It was quite an interesting idea that as you speed up then you hear the frequency as a sound.

Have you heard of “The Voice of the Silence” by Madame Blavatsky? Here’s what she has to say about various sounds:

Before thou set’st thy foot upon the ladder’s upper rung, the ladder of the mystic sounds, thou hast to hear the voice of thy inner GOD* in seven manners.

[*The Higher SELF.]

The first is like the nightingale’s sweet voice chanting a song of parting to its mate.

The second comes as the sound of a silver cymbal of the Dhyanis, awakening the twinkling stars.

The next is as the plaint melodious of the ocean-sprite imprisoned in its shell.

And this is followed by the chant of Vina (26).

The fifth like sound of bamboo-flute shrills in thine ear.

It changes next into a trumpet-blast.

The last vibrates like the dull rumbling of a thunder-cloud.

The seventh swallows all the other sounds. They die, and then are heard no more.

When the six (27) are slain and at the Master’s feet are laid, then is the pupil merged into the ONE (28), becomes that ONE and lives therein. The Voice of the Silence

I believe the “sound of silence” is me as the Soul.

Anyway, these are only ideas and possible explanations, John. Trust in yourself; you already have the answers within you.

With love,

By: John Thu, 29 Nov 2007 13:17:47 +0000 I’ve really enjoyed reading your information and the others comments. Over the last few months this ‘sound of silence’ has dramatically increased and I hear it epecially when I am relaxed, at peace and in tune with life. I feel it right now and its great to know that the explanation is both meaningful and powerful.
thank you Enocia x

By: vector8 Mon, 22 Oct 2007 17:47:59 +0000 Hi Estelle,

Thank you so much for your kind comment. I’m glad you found the piece helpful.

Sounds like you’re studying a great course there. All the best with your MA.

With LOVE and appreciation.

Enocia :-)

By: Estelle Sun, 21 Oct 2007 10:11:28 +0000 Thanks a million for your website. I ‘stumbled’ over it this morning when I had nothing else to do. I sat and wondered if SILENCE has a frequency. That’s when I googled my way to you … boy, am I glad I did.

I am busy with my MA in Eco-psychology and music-therapy so this is very interesting to me. But beside the interesting fact – I needed to know this. I feel like I’m going bonkers at the moment, and it’s not because of a frequency in my head that I hear, more because of a ‘lack of …’

We become so busy with the hussle and bussle of everyday life, trying to help other people through music therapy, that we forget how important (life-sustaining) this SILENCE is.

Thanks for reminding me.

Sent with LOVE and appreciation.

By: Enocia Thu, 21 Jun 2007 12:39:44 +0000 Thank you so much Matt for your comment. It’s good to know that it wasn’t just me going bonkers. I wish doctors would accept this wisdom.

With love,

By: Matt Tue, 19 Jun 2007 06:18:06 +0000 The ringing in the ears, especially noticable around your pillow at night, is actually the love vibrational frequency of the light (heaven). The sound is always around us and wherever we go because it is everywhere. Notice how this sound shifts and intensifies when you say your prayers.
Everyone is thinking that they have tinnitus, but it is simply the sound of heaven folks.
There is also a deep rumbling sound which seems to emanate from ground level. It sounds like something growling on the floor. See whether or not you can hear it. Can you get what that noise is?

By: Enocia Mon, 26 Jun 2006 09:21:24 +0000 Hi Sarita,

I’m glad you found this piece helpful. I appreciate your comments then and now.

I used to go to Alternatives years ago. I’ve also heard Byron Katie is doing wonderful work. Unfortunately, I’m not able to attend. Thank you for the invite though. Hope you have a lovely evening.

Love always,

By: Sarita Thu, 22 Jun 2006 14:16:54 +0000 Hello dear enocia,
So lovely to read this and all the comments. It made me re-evaluate what I hear as may be being the sound of silence rather than tinnitus. It is certainly helpful to tune into it.
I sent you a post once in the early days of your blogg, and I have an idea you are in London. I thought I would invite you to come and hear Byron Katie speak at Alternatives on Monday evening. She is so beautiful. There are details on .
Lots of love,

By: Enocia Tue, 13 Jun 2006 12:48:09 +0000 Hi Steven,

I can so relate to what you’re saying about using the inner ringing as a “metronome.” I do the same. I also find it gets drowned in noisy environment but it’s good to know it’s always there. It’s also wonderful to be reminded that one is always tuned in. :-)

Thanks for your comments.

Lots of love,

By: steven Fri, 09 Jun 2006 17:22:35 +0000 Howdy Y’all: I’ve “heard” this inner ringing for years and I have excellent hearing (recently checked out medically); I like to amplify it in medication and “turn it on” in my increasing mindfulness practice. I consider it a blessing, a sort of spiritual metronome I can tune in to sort of at will (although it gets dwarfed somewhat in busy/noisy crowds or on a heavily trafficked street). As I embrace and turn to faith more and more (perhaps my burgeoning buddhism is awakening my buddha nature?)this sound provides an internal reference point for me and (maybe?)a litle indicator or payoff that I am on the Right Path;It is also quite pleasant–vaya con dios, Steven

By: Enocia Wed, 31 May 2006 14:27:49 +0000 Dear Bimbam,

Thank you for your comments.

I can only tell you what I’ve experienced which is obviously not definitive as I’m still discovering more about the Silence.

The Silence is not tinnitus. Tinnitus is a kind of dissonance; could be thoughts , all sorts of electro magnetic stuff jumbled together which the instrument picks up. I hear this a lot. And then there is voice of the Silence which is different. I can now tell the difference. I have observed the dissonance is trying to distract me from the Silence within. When I hear the dissonance I switch to the Silence. Can’t describe how I do it, it’s more of an intent I have and it happens of its own accord.

I can’t tell you if everyone experiences the Silence in the same way. It may very well be that each individual has a different frequency which is experienced in a different manner. What I can say for definite is there is nothing to fear because I know the Voice to be that of our real Self, Mind without concepts.

In fact last Sunday (30/5) I spent practically all day being in the Silence and it was oh, so, peaceful. The interesting thing is while I was in Silence I was also listening to the film “Some Like it Hot” on television, though not watching it. It felt like I had this field around me where thoughts just bounce off.

And another thing, when I started meditating, I treated it as a game, something to explore. I had no expectations. I used no technique nor did I know of any. I just did it in my way. For a while nothing happened but for some reason I persevered. So if you feel like meditating, go with what feels natural for you. You will know. And know that there is nothing to fear.

Your experiences sound to me as if you’re hearing Mind. My advice is for you to observe the Silence. There’s nothing for you to fear. Just observe and get to know the Silence.

By all means if you feel you have tinnitus or some disturbance, get whatever treatment you believe is appropriate.

Hope this makes sense.

Lots of love,

By: Bimbam Wed, 31 May 2006 01:44:07 +0000 Hi, ive been hearing this “silence” (strangely i gave it exactly the same term while trying to concieve what it was but silence seems to cover it) for some time now, its constantly there although non intrusive but as soon as i want too its there full blast although i find it hard to listen without other thoughts blocking me (mostly fear). ive never properly meditated ever since a single meditation when i was perhaps 13 or 14 (only 19 now) it was only a test, id never done it never had it explained and ended up scaring myself to the point where i have never achieved it since, i felt like every point of energy in the universe were connected to me somehow and ended up losing around an hour of time, ive avoided it and forgotten or written it off as something else, even now i have not told people i know. but it seems to be hounding me, the fact i found this website was somewhat worrying, i didnt expect this to be a documented thing. does this sound not scare you? do you not feel like there are an infinite amount of bad things that can be done with this? the one time i tried tuning into it it felt like i could have done anything, good or bad. the scientist in me immediately said tinnitus, im not religious and cant come to grips with the idea of paranormal abilities. how do i make it stop or how do i come to understand it.

By: Orla Tue, 21 Feb 2006 21:02:06 +0000 dear enocia,
thank you for your response. I am reading it on Tuesday. I had a dificult situation over the weekend which led to a deep feeling of ‘right’ – this is exactly right and all is as it should be followed by a fleeting moment of actualy being in that moment! (inner Silence?) Had I read your response before this incidence it could not have been more true and now verifies what I already found inside myself. Thank You.
