“The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (Jesus, John 6:63)

I know we all have our ways to access our true nature. Some of us study truth teachings from the various scriptures and other metaphysical works, some study with spiritual teachers, others practise personal development techniques etc. I have used many different channels but the one that lead me to the truth of being was truth teachings.

I know some people who can quote scriptures yet these scriptures are not made manifest in their lives. Why is that? I believe it’s because the truth is at an intellectual level and has not been fully integrated where it can come to life.

The Master Jesus talks about his words being life. Truth is alive, but can be dead if you treat the words as words and are not able to see or feel the power behind the words. The way I access the power behind words is by imagination. I see the words come to life around me. Because they come to life, I have to be very discerning about words I ponder upon.

Let’s take a passage from the scriptures that I love:

“I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.” (Isaiah 45: 2-3)

At one level, the above can be read historically, as Isaiah writing for people of his time. I take the perspective that Truth is eternal and is forever relevant. I have no connection with Israel yet I can relate to the words in this passage.

For me, the “I” is referring to a Higher Power. Whether you interpret this Higher Power as God, Spirit, Mind, Higher Self, Love is a personal matter. In order for the passage to have meaning I know there is an all-powerful being which I call Spirit, that is in me and everywhere, preparing the way for me and removing any obstacles in the way, symbolised in the above passage as “gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron.” This Power is also the all-knowing one or Wisdom, symbolised as “treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places.”

I then ponder on the meaning of the words. I personally use visualisation to bring the words to life. I see myself living in that reality of truth and because I believe it is real, it is.

But if you read the scriptures, particularly the King James Bible, as a book of literary works or historical document, you are apt to see the words in a logical way or relating to a past event, which will not bring to life the hidden meanings behind the text.

Another way I read scriptures or truth is I trust in the power of the word to come alive. Again I choose the words that resonate with me. Then I relax and let the meaning come to me. Sometimes I get insights and at other times I feel immense power from within; or my thoughts are silenced and I am drawn into Silence. Within this Silence is infinite power which can change reality in the twinkling of an eye.

I love truth teachings and I love words in general. I also know the power of words. This is why I’m very careful as to the words I ponder upon.

There are great writings out there all acting as “portals” leading us to our true nature. It’s all about being willing to explore in your own way what lies beneath.

Otherwise, it’s a case of “nice words and so what?”
