“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23: 7)

You’ve all heard that what you think or believe is what you create. Is this truth? Yes and no.

I have come to realise that since all thoughts are creative, you can create whatever you want. If you can think it, it already exists. Technically, we should be able to manifest our thoughts instantly but something stops us. Many people will argue that what they usually end up creating is what they don’t want, or creation takes too long. I believe there is a reason for this.

In my own universe, I see myself as the sun with infinite rays. Each ray represents a reality. If I am thinking of creating x, I know that reality already exists as a ray. The act of creation is actually making what already exists visible; letting the unconscious become conscious.

Let’s suppose a woman wants to lose weight, say, 50 pounds. There is a ray representing her as her ideal weight right now. The problem is that she might have beliefs that in order to lose weight, she has to go on a diet; or she has to eat sensibly; or she has to exercise; or the doctor has told her she has an illness; or it is something in her past life that is making her put on weight; or her nutritionist believes she’s allergic to certain food; or her psychotherapist believes she’s using food to protect herself; etc. For every belief there is a ray. Now do you understand why this woman finds it difficult to lose the weight? Because each ray/reality is trying to manifest through the thinker, creating conflicts. What is manifested depends on where she puts her attention.

The truth is we are always using Universal Energy (U/E) to create as there is nothing but Energy. It has been my experience that U/E always says Yes. You can get yourself out of the way and allow U/E to create the reality you wish or you could do it the hard way trying to create according to your beliefs. Either way, you will always get what you desire. One could take a long time and might not even happen; while the other is instant.

Universal Energy is independent of one’s beliefs. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve been dieting for x amount of years or have been eating sensibly or been on supplements. All these represent beliefs. Know that there is a reality now with you as your ideal weight, which can manifest when you let go of your ideas or beliefs. Do you think children care about Truth teachings? They want what they want and they want it Now! You can kid yourself that your realisations enable you to create. If that is what you choose to believe, that is perfectly reasonable. Since the reality of what one wishes to create already exists, why bother about understanding truth, or having a belief? Why not just let it happen?

A friend once told me a story about a woman who attended a Christian Science talk for the first time. She’d been trying to lose weight and it wasn’t happening. She listened to the speaker talking about God and Love and something clicked within her. When the woman got up, her dress was loose around her. She’d lost all the weight instantly.

There’s a story in the book Autobiography of a Yogi about how Yogananda’s guru, Yukteswar, gained instant weight because of the grace of his guru, Lahiri Mahasaya.

“‘Really, it has been your thoughts that have made you feel alternately weak and strong.’ My master looked at me affectionately. ‘You have seen how your health has exactly followed your expectations. Thought is a force, even as electricity or gravitation. The human mind is a spark of the almighty consciousness of God. I could show you that whatever your powerful mind believes very intensely would instantly come to pass.’

“Knowing that Lahiri Mahasaya never spoke idly, I addressed him with great awe and gratitude: ‘Master, if I think I am well and have regained my former weight, shall that happen?’

“‘It is so, even at this moment.’ My guru spoke gravely, his gaze concentrated on my eyes.

“Lo! I felt an increase not alone of strength but of weight. Lahiri Mahasaya retreated into silence. After a few hours at his feet, I returned to my mother’s home, where I stayed during my visits to Benares.

“‘My son! What is the matter? Are you swelling with dropsy?’ Mother could hardly believe her eyes. My body was now of the same robust dimensions it had possessed before my illness.

“I weighed myself and found that in one day I had gained fifty pounds; they remained with me permanently. Friends and acquaintances who had seen my thin figure were aghast with wonderment. A number of them changed their mode of life and became disciples of Lahiri Mahasaya as a result of this miracle. Autobiography of a Yogi

I believe every reality you can conceive of already exists as ideas. Once the intent/thought is sent out to experience whatever reality, it is immediately so, provided you don’t put anything in its way. In my experience there are some things that have taken eternity to manifest. I have doubted whether some things are not meant to happen. I’m only now realising that it was my beliefs getting in the way of manifestation.

Do beliefs matter? Yes and no. I’ve tried beliefs and they have been too long-winded for my liking. Creation occurs with or without beliefs. I only need to know what already is, and it is so. This is the act of Grace.

I choose Grace.

I am Grace,

One Response to “Do Beliefs Matter?”

  1. beliefs is all that there is, if you were to strip away every belief that you have, you would exist only as the energy being that you are and you are the ability to go fourth and to do work.
beliefs create reality and the very second you speak it, it becomes consciousness, and fills the structure which is your belief. the reason why our beliefs do not always create is we either miss the oppertunity, or we have secondaries getting in the way sub consciously and holds our beliefs down like a anchor holds down a ship. you can believe that you can create what ever you want, how ever if you do not really believe it it wont matter or turn to matter. thank you, harr
