Surely Freud was wrong on many things but his biggest error was looking at life from an ego's viewpoint! He clearly never achieved enlightenment, nirvana, a state of existence experienced when you manage to put your ego in its place like a dog 'walking to heel'. Then your true self is in the forefront and you are a free spirit at last! I am not religious but the ego is the biblical equivalent of satan which you need to 'get thee behind me'. the biggest sin is pride (ego). Transcend your ego and you become incredibly happy as you are feeling life to the full, you realise how much you already know, you are totally aware, you have a huge amount of physical and mental energy, you sleep dreamlessly the 'sleep of the just', you feel your true connection to the universe, you are living in the moment, and of course you love all living things as you now know what an incredible thing it is to be alive as a complete human being. The ego is not supposed to rule your life like a dog that leads you around. The ego is how you think everyone else perceives you and is not you. The ego needs to lie to itself (denial, repression etc) to keep itself happy but living the ego lie is a misery that leads to all the problems in peoples minds and ultimately in the world. If only people knew this simple truth this planet could be an amazing place as people would no longer be egotistically greedy, jealous, stressed, prejudiced, perverse and miserable. The final phase of human development is rising above your egotistical desires (biblical sins), realising your true nature and the real nature of life ( born again, enlightened etc). Freud thought that an ego which moved too far towards the 'superego' would become too judgemental and rigid in its thinking but he didn't know what he was talking about because he had never achieved the step of overcoming his own egotistical desires and didn't experience life without the ego. So my advice to you is to get a life by training your mind to ignore your ego's wants and grow towards a real and fulfilling life and one day in the near future you will suddenly realise that you are totally blissful and free of all those horrible miseries the ego was causing and you will have the 'something deeper' that you KNOW is there. bernie
