As far as I know it now spirit=God. That "miserable" experiences come from our fears, like being seperate, not having obeyed, being not good enough and so on. I'm sure that we wanted to learn certain lessons and agreed already prior to birth. Some call that carma. We chose that carma to learn things we may have not payed attention in previous lifes. To draw our attention to it we built blockages around which we bump into.
